The mission of the Shaker Heritage Society is to strengthen our community through educational programs and historic preservation focused on the Shaker ideals of sustainability, equality, compassion, cooperation, and the pursuit of a meaningful life. The SHS operates a museum and gift shop at the historic site of the first Shaker community, which is located adjacent to Albany International Airport. We are a small but growing not-for-profit organization that serves a diverse audience of local residents, students, tourists, and business travelers.

Shaker Heritage Society seeks a part time Special Events Coordinator to manage the Society’s three annual craft fairs along with other public events and fundraising activities. The Coordinator will work with a committee of volunteers to identify and recruit craft vendors, review vendor applications, and layout booths for craft fair events including the annual Shaker Christmas Craft Fair. The Coordinator will also be responsible for requesting in-kind donations, securing permits, equipment and entertainment, and organizing event set up and tear down. Administrative tasks for this position include maintaining mailing lists and ensuring clear communication with vendors, event sponsors, volunteers and other staff.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a collaborative and supportive spirit and must have exceptionally strong interpersonal skills. S/he will have the ability to work effectively with people who have diverse needs and capabilities. The Special Events Coordinator will have experience planning events for the general public and have strong computer (MS Word, Excel), organizing, and communication skills. S/he also will be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to assist with event set up/tear down. Prior experience with craft fairs and connections in the artisan and handicraft community are highly desired. The Society provides a family friendly work environment and offers flexible work hours whenever possible. The core work hours are Tuesday through Friday 9:30am-4:00pm although weekend and evening hours are required.
