Hurricane Irene made her wrath known in the Capital Region this weekend with torrential rain and gale force winds. The Mohawk and Hudson Rivers overflowed tremendously, and the water completely flooded dozens of streets, including the entirety of Schoharie County, just west of Albany. Bridges were washed away, and portions of the NYS Thruway were closed to traffic.
SHS counts itself extremely lucky that we only received minimal damage. The Shaker Creek flooded, submerging the foot bridge and washing away the stream banks (pictured below). The bridge is currently closed while we work on fixing the damage.
Our thoughts are with those who have suffered the effects of the weather and are still dealing with the aftermath.
