DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the beautiful upstate NY summer as you explore the booths of dozens of local and regional artisans on the grounds of the Shaker Heritage Society. A Family Activity Tent will offer games and activities for kids of all ages. Enjoy the sounds of live music\, explore the bountifully blooming heritage herb garden\, and learn about Shaker history and architecture with guided tours at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Fair food and pie will be available for purchase. \nThis event helps to support local businesses and a small non-for-profit. DESCRIPTION:The event begins with a keynote address entitled Can’t You Sing and Dance A Little? Shaker Marches\, Dances and Motioning Songs by renowned Shaker music and dance scholar\, Mary Ann Haagen from 1pm-2pm. The lecture explores the Shakers’ use of movement to generate and sustain spiritual energy in worship. \nThis will be followed by a Shaker dance workshop from 2:15pm-3:15pm  led by Dr. K. Michelle Arthur\, Education Coordinator\, SHS. The workshop will include a variety of styles of songs and dances that span the nearly 250-year history of Shaker dance. \nAt 3:30pm\, Melanie Axel-Lute will lead a presentation about the influence of Shaker music & dance on modern music & dance.
