This year’s event will honor Shaker founding board member and beloved local art teacher\, Libby Lee. All proceeds will benefit the historic preservation initiatives of the Shaker Heritage Society. \n“Shaker Your Plate” is a term that Shakers used to refer to clearing your plate of all of the scrumptious food that they prepared for their families and guests. Like the Shakers\, we focus on efficient and sustainable use of our resources. DESCRIPTION:The event begins with a keynote address entitled Can’t You Sing and Dance A Little? Shaker Marches\, Dances and Motioning Songs by renowned Shaker music and dance scholar\, Mary Ann Haagen from 1pm-2pm. The lecture explores the Shakers’ use of movement to generate and sustain spiritual energy in worship. \nThis will be followed by a Shaker dance workshop from 2:15pm-3:15pm  led by Dr. K. Michelle Arthur\, Education Coordinator\, SHS. The workshop will include a variety of styles of songs and dances that span the nearly 250-year history of Shaker dance. \nAt 3:30pm\, Melanie Axel-Lute will lead a presentation about the influence of Shaker music & dance on modern music & dance.
