Choral arrangements from his “Shaker Harmony Collection” have been performed and recorded by choirs around the globe. “Lay Me Low\,” one of Siegfried’s most frequently performed Shaker arrangements\, was sung by The Joint Armed Forces Chorus at the State Funeral of President George H. W. Bush. In recent years\, Siegfried has undertaken extensive archival research at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in Maine. This research has led to multiple collaborations with Brother Arnold Hadd\, who carries on the 250-year oral tradition of Shaker song. Collaborations have included concert performances at Sabbathday Lake\, a film for the American Folklife Center entitled “Shaker Spirituals in Maine\,” and the recording of two oral histories for the Library of Congress. In 2024\, Siegfried presented a “Community Sing” at the Library of Congress in acknowledgement of the 250th anniversary of the Shakers in North America. Since 2014\, he has served as composer-in-residence with the Capitol Hill Chorale in Washington\, DC. He teaches at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. SUMMARY:Nancy Donnelly & Trio Jazz Concert
DESCRIPTION:Nancy Donnelly will present a tribute to legendary jazz vocalists during Jazz Appreciation month. This afternoon concert is sponsored by the Music Performance Trust Fund in celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month throughout the Capital Region. Nancy will be joined by a stellar trio with John LeRoy on keyboard\, Erik Johnson on bass and Bob Halek on Drums. \n“Nancy Donnelly is an exciting singer whose voice is nestled nicely somewhere in between jazz and soul\, a rich\, warm and powerful sound” Peter Eldridge (New York Voices). \n\n“Jazz vocalist Nancy Donnelly is a taste of the old school of jazz\, when vocals counted for something. Her voice carries you off to the jazz and swing clubs of the 30’s and 40’s. Her voicing is mellow and smooth\, with the natural tones not found in this world taken over by smooth jazz and contemporary synthesized music”.- EPerry @ musicianreview.net\n\n\nTickets are FREE\, donations always appreciated! SUMMARY:There Are NO Black Shakers
DESCRIPTION:There Are NO Black Shakers is a contemporary folk opera re-interpreting traditional Shaker hymns to tell the story of Prime Lane\, a free Black man who joined the Shaker Society in Albany in 1802. Nine years later he renounced the faith\, attempting to take his family with him. When his daughters Betty and Phebe elected to stay in the covenant as Shaker sisters\, Prime sued the Shakers. Not for custody of his daughters\, but for theft of his property. [Born to a formerly enslaved woman whose freedom he bought\, Prime could argue that the Shakers were holding his slaves.]\n\nThere Are NO Black Shakers gives voice to the silent history of the painfully gradual abolition of slavery of African Americans in New York State that\, while resisted by many Abolitionist groups like the Shakers\, remains invisible in the dominant historical narrative.\n\nWritten by Jean-Marc Superville Sovak\, and under the musical direction of award-winning violinist Gwen Laster\, There Are NO Black Shakers includes bassist Damon Banks\, guitarist Patrick Jones\, percussionist Todd Isler and the vocal talent of Aviva Jaye\, Cleo Reed and Lawrence Street.\n\nPlease purchase tickets online at Eventbrite!

The Albany-based group is an early music consort formed in 1988 which specializes in medieval and renaissance music. \nThe variety of instruments played add to the range of musical selections from the Medieval times to the 15th century. The concert will also feature special guests\, Trio Tramontana. While you may have heard renaissance music through madrigals\, the exoticism of medieval music is a delight to the ear. \nConsort members come from a number of professional backgrounds that are as varied as the array of instruments they play: medicine\, music\, university teaching\, library sciences\, astronomy\, biology\, business\, biotechnology\, and instrument repair. You’ll find yourself caught up in their enthusiasm. \nPlease register online at Eventbrite!
