SUMMARY:Manifestations: A Shaker Ghost Tour
DESCRIPTION:250 years ago\, eight Shakers fled England\, bound for New York in hopes of finding religious freedom. Named for their trembling “religious ecstasies\,” the Shakers received gifts of revelation; communications from the spirit world. Led by a woman whom they called\, “Mother Ann”\, they were subject to bloody persecution. Shakers were beaten\, imprisoned\, abducted\, and chased out of town on both sides of the Atlantic. Undeterred\, they persevered to build their vision of Heaven-on-Earth right here\, in Albany. We invite you to join us as we pull back the veil separating this world from the next at America’s First Shaker Settlement. \nTours are on Oct. 16\,17\,18 and 23\,24\,25 at 5:30pm. \n*This ghost tour touches on sensitive topics including sickness\, mental illness\, suicide\, physical abuse\, religious persecution\, and death\, both of children and of adults. You will learn how to cover a foam form with wool roving\, how to sculpt wool three dimensionally to form pieces that can be attached for the spherical ornament\, and finally how to blend colors and create a painted effect using wool roving and felting needle to create a unique and beautiful piece of wool decor for your home or tree this holiday season. \nTickets available on Eventbrite! \nMore about the artist: \nMallory Zondag is an award-winning artist and artist educator living in New York. Exhibited internationally in solo and group shows\, her work focuses on the natural world and how it relates to the physical body and the human experience. She explores deeply personal and connective universal stories through the meditative and hands-on practices of wet felting\, weaving\, sculpting\, and stitching\, seeking to bring the ephemeral into physical being.  The growth and decay of the natural world\, the duality of discomfort and attraction we feel towards it\, and humanity’s place within this dichotomy informs her dimensional textures and sculptural pieces.
