SUMMARY:Kintsugi Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Break and paint your own bowl with gold using the ancient Japanese technique of Kintsugi. \n\n\n\n\nKintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. If a bowl is broken\, rather than discarding the pieces\, the fragments are put back and the cracks are adorned with gold. There are no attempts to hide the damage\, instead\, it is highlighted. The practice has come to represent the idea that beauty can be found in imperfection. The breakage is an opportunity and applying this kind of thinking to instances of failure in our own lives can be helpful. \nJoin Shaker Heritage Society and hvkintsugi in this crowd favorite! This is our last Kintsugi workshop of 2026! This workshop will be led by local Art Therapist Tara DeLuca. \nDuring the workshop you will connect with your bowl\, break it\, confront the damage and take ownership of the pieces that remain by glueing them back together. \nThe bowl will be changed forever\, just as each person is through their own personal experiences. \nThis is a calming\, shared experience. It is an excellent way to participate in self care. \n“Instead of masking the flaws\, a Japanese way of seeing things is that by highlighting the cracks\, the piece becomes stronger\, more beautiful\, and easier to use.” \nAll materials are included! \nYou may bring one piece of broken pottery to use in the workshop\, but we ask that you participate in the breaking and painting of the supplied bowl. \nRegister online at Eventbrite.com!

SUMMARY:Botanical Art with Colored Pencils: Tansy
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to bring tansy to life with colored pencils in this chill\, hands-on botanical art session. \n\n\n\n\nTansy is a perennial plant that has yellow/gold button flowers with fern-like leaves. It is said to mean “immortality and resistance”. The Shakers used the perennial Tansy as an insect repellent and for natural medicine. \nIn this 2 1/2-hour class students will learn the history and process of Botanical Drawing. It begins with gradual toning of simple geometric shapes that will turn into all the forms in nature. This process will make your piece three dimensional and pop off the page. We will begin our forms by layering neutral tones and putting on top color with colored pencils. By the end of class participants will have created their very own Tansy. \nPlease register online at Eventbrite.com!

SUMMARY:Needle Felted Spherical Ornament Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Get crafty and learn how to make cute wool ornaments perfect for the holidays. \n\n\n\n\nLearn how to paint and sculpt with wool during this three-hour needle felted ornament workshop with local artist Mallory Zondag. You will learn how to cover a foam form with wool roving\, how to sculpt wool three dimensionally to form pieces that can be attached for the spherical ornament\, and finally how to blend colors and create a painted effect using wool roving and felting needle to create a unique and beautiful piece of wool decor for your home or tree this holiday season. \nTickets available on Eventbrite! \nMore about the artist: \nMallory Zondag is an award-winning artist and artist educator living in New York. Exhibited internationally in solo and group shows\, her work focuses on the natural world and how it relates to the physical body and the human experience. She explores deeply personal and connective universal stories through the meditative and hands-on practices of wet felting\, weaving\, sculpting\, and stitching\, seeking to bring the ephemeral into physical being.  The growth and decay of the natural world\, the duality of discomfort and attraction we feel towards it\, and humanity’s place within this dichotomy informs her dimensional textures and sculptural pieces.
