Educating and Informing about the Shaker Legacy

Shaker Heritage Society has put together lectures, workshops and programs to help educate the public about the daily lives of the Shakers, their beliefs, practices and values and how they influenced America. Our series of curated workshops and academic lectures are an opportunity for individuals to learn more about a particular subject, where inquiry and discussion are encouraged.  Flyers and other materials are offered so that   participants can continue to learn about the topic after the session has ended.

Teachers may choose from exciting programs that encourage students’ awareness of Shaker traditions of respect, tolerance, and diversity, scheduling field trips to the Church Family or booking our hands-on program that will bring our museum to the classroom. A special ELA/Social Studies program examines Louis Lowry’s ‘The Giver’ and explores how the community portrayed in the book compares and contrasts with the Shakers’ lifestyle and beliefs.
